We didn't often get a perfect snow for sleds. It needed to be deep but not too deep, wet but not too wet, crusty but not too icy... Dad watched for the perfect snow. When one arrived, he took us to the golf course to slide down those smooth hills.
Here comes Joe B. on his sled! Our sleds were made of wood and had steel runners that we twisted with a wooden bar in front to steer. They did not steer too well.
Here is our house up on the hill covered with snow. You can only really see the roof because of the trees. On one occasion Dad took the movie camera when we went sledding.
You can watch us coming down the hill.
Then we trudge up the hill pulling our sleds.
Dad is telling us to aim right towards him.
I got too close and he had to jump out of the way.
The movie shows the hills of the golf course and pans around to our house across Spring Valley Drive.
After a while Dad decided to borrow my sled and ride down the hill himself. With the camera. That's the last ride on the film.
What a perfect hill for a snowy ride that was!
